You may apply for exemption if you meet the following education/work experience standards:
i) ‘Mature’ student with at least 4 months of field experience in BC, or
ii) Forestry technical diploma with at least 4 months of field experience in BC
AND
Your work experience must cover the scope of topics covered at field school, including at least four of the following skills: site assessment, ecosystem mapping, timber cruising, block or road layout, hazard abatement surveys, regeneration surveys, wildlife surveys, or wildland fire fighting.
Students who do not meet these criteria, but feel that they have a strong case for exemption may apply and present their case.
Applications for an exemption are due by March 31, 2024
Apply to Dr. Lori Daniels (lori.daniels@ubc.ca) by providing:
- a cover letter with your name, student number, email address that requests exemption by explaining your field skills and work experience that justify your request,
- your resume detailing work experience, including the contact information (email and phone) for one or more employer who is willing to provide a reference to verify your experience and skills, and
- a copy of your unofficial transcript listing courses taken to date toward your degree.
Applications for exemption will be verified by checking your references and you will be informed if the exemption is granted before April 12, 2024 (before online reservation is due).
